A Video Conference on the Possible Effects of Risks and Opportunities Caused by Climate Change on the Banking Sector was organized by the Banks Association of Turkey.In the first part of the conference, where the opening speech was made by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Alpaslan Çakar, the Role of Institutions in Promoting Sustainable Finance was discussed.European Banking Federation Financial Growth Director Burçak İnel, United Nations Environment Program TCFD Program Officer David Carlin, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Climate Resilience Investments Manager Craig Davies and Turkish Economic and Political Research Foundation Program Director Dr. Güven Sak spoke at the Panel.Sustainability in the Turkish Banking Sector was discussed in the second part of the conference, which was held with the participation of Sustainability Unit Manager Derya Sargın Malkoç, Garanti BBVA Sustainable Finance Manager Seray İmer and Ayşe Nazlıca, TSKB Sustainability and Corporate Governance Coordinator, Türkiye İş Bankası A.Ş.

President of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey Prof. Dr. Şahap Kavcıoğlu visited the Banks Association of Turkey and met with the Members of the Board of Directors hosted by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Alpaslan Çakar.Developments in the global and domestic economy and the banking sector were evaluated, expectations for the second half of the year were exchanged at the meeting.

64th General Assembly Meeting of the Banks Association of Turkey (BAT) took place on 28 of May 2021. Minister of Finance and Treasury Mr. Lütfi Elvan, the Chairman of the Banking Regulation and Supervision Board Mr. Mehmet Ali Akben and the Chairman of the Board of the Banks Association of Turkey Mr. Alpaslan Çakar attended and delivered the opening speeches of the Meeting.

Finalists of the Banks Association of Turkey's the financial literacy quiz, competed at the European Money Quiz, grand final which was organised by the European Banking Federation for students aged between 13 and 15 years. Toprak Üstün (Istanbul) and Zehra Çetin (Mersin) from Turkey took part in the competition via online. This year, 28 countries participated in the European Money Quiz Final.The finalists were selected from among the top winners in financial literacy competitions held nationally by European banks' associations. Approximately 50,000 students participated in competitions held throughout Europe this year.Click on the link to watch the competition. 

As a part of ongoing cooperation with universities, Transformation in the Banking Sector and Human Resources Conference was held for the university students. The Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency, the Participation Banks Association of Turkey, the Turkish Capital Markets Association, the Capital Market Licensing Registry and Training Agency and banks attended to the online conference. Representatives gave information about career and internship opportunities in their institutions and answered questions of the students.

Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, Prof. Dr. Şahap Kavcıoğlu met with the remaining members of the Banks Association of Turkey (BAT) and the Participation Banks Association of Turkey after meeting with the BAT Board on 21st of March. Latest developments in economy and banking sector was discussed at the meeting.

Professional development cooperation between the Banks Association of Turkey and Northern Cyprus Banking Association has completed its 12th year.Since 2008 bankers, academicians and professional trainers who are among the trainers list of the BAT had been giving courses in the capital, Lefkoşe. This year trainings were migrated to online due to pandemic conditions.From the begining of the cooperation 249 seminars were held of which attracted around 6000 attendance. 

In order to strengthen the ties between universities and the banking sector and to give information on the current developments in finance The Banks Association of Turkey held the “Transformation of the Banking Sector in the Light of Global Economic Developments Conference”.Up to 700 university students, academics, bankers and finance professionals participated to the webinars that were held between 16-19 November where "World and Developments and Their Effects on Banking Sector in Turkey's Economy", "Turkey and New Trends in Banking in the world", "Pandemic Post Business Life and Possible Developments in the Banking Sector ”,“ Digitalization and New Generation Competencies ”,“ Change in Digital Currencies (crypto) and Payment Systems ”,“ Digital Banking ”,“ e-Commerce and Banking Sector ”were discussed.

63'rd General Assembly Meeting of the Banks Association of Turkey (BAT) took place on 23 June 2020. Mugla Sıtkı Kocman University Economy and Finance Club students paid a visit to the Banks Association of Turkey. The Association and its work was introduced to the students, a presentation on the recent developments in Turkish economy, finance and banking sector was delivered.

LIBOR Reform and TLREF Practices Workshop was organized in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).Workshop was opened by EBRD Director of Turkey Arvid Tuerkner, followed by speakers from Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, Borsa Istanbul and EBRD who shared their presentations under such titles as, “Libor Reform, why and what it means for USD borrowers and lenders? “TLREF Index Methodology” and “Current and Expected Role of TLREF in the financial sector”.Workshop was finalised with a panel where representatives of Borsa Istanbul, EBRD and banks discussed implementation practicalities and implications of LIBOR reform and new risk free rates.Please click on the link to download workshop presentations.
